At our first session, we will talk about your short- and long-term goals for our work together. If you are taking a test, we will go over the content and format of your exam and discuss your testing history. Then I will ask you to take a diagnostic test so we can find out what you already know and what you need to learn.
It is also helpful to have on hand any previous score reports from the test, or preliminary score reports from related tests (ERB scores if taking the ISEE, PSAT scores if taking the SAT), plus any preparation materials you have already purchased and/or begun using on your own.
If we are working on a certain subject or class, students should bring home all relevant materials–recent tests and quizzes, handouts, class notes, textbooks, workbooks and the course syllabus. It is helpful, but not essential, for me to have dialogue with your teacher. If you would like me to get in touch with your teacher, please provide me with the teacher’s contact information.
Each week we will stay in communication about what we’ve been working on and what to do before our next session. I like to check in personally with parents at the end of each session, but if that’s not possible, we will stay in touch via phone and email.
